THE PROJECT
This group project was done as part of our elective programme in school. Our designated site is an open space along Penang Road and Orchard Road, Between the Istana Park and Orchard Central.
Our project, together with other teams (Tanglin, Orchard and Somerset), aims to revitalise Orchard Road and entice more tourist and locals to visit. To show that Orchard has more than just high-end shopping.
OUR DEFINITION
The name "parasite" may have a negative connotation. But not in our project. Parasite Architecture to us is meant to be a design that rejuvenates the atmosphere of an area, achieving a desirable design for the client without much disruption to the existing host. Benefiting both the host and the new architecture.
USER ANALYSIS
Our team conducted a user analysis by going down to the site to interview the people there. The people were of various backgrounds, namely, shop tenants, tourists and locals (families and youth).
We collated our findings and have identified 4 key aspects that the people were looking for in this side of Orchard Road. We created the G.S.A.F. - Green, Space, Art and Food. This went on to become our design drivers for our Parasite Architecture.
